Within this folder there are over 200 decorative shareware fonts to get you started with logo design. Producers of these fonts did it for love (or fun) rather than money, and as a consequence the quality is variable. Some - such as Marker Felt, Attic, Harting, Poptics and Comics Cartoon - are so well made that they've migrated into professional design jobs such as record sleeves and advertisements. Others lack decent spacing and kerning, but if only setting short words this can be corrected in the layout program.
A few of the really complex or old fonts - Talon, Visage and Bone Black for example - have rough or poorly constructed outlines which can lead to long thin lines projecting from the letters when printed, or areas of white within the letter where the outlines cross. These are included because while they're not suitable for high-end PostScript output, they may print perfectly from less touchy lower end programs. And if you've got a drawing program such as Illustrator or Freehand, which can turn the font into outlines, it's very easy to edit the required characters and correct the problem areas.
The fonts are subdivided into categories to make it easier to find a suitable look. These categories are necessarily subjective, but they give a rough idea of what to expect. To make it easier to search for that exact font, we've included alphabetical sample sheets in Pict form. This means you can examine every single font without even loading it into the system: simply double-click the Pict and it'll open in SimpleText or TeachText. You can then view the fonts on-screen or print out the sample sheets for an instant reference guide.
